Information We Collect

• Account information: details you provide such as name and email.
• App content: data you create in the app (e.g., lists, items, categories, groups).
• Location data: with your permission, store locations you associate with lists. Your device's location is used locally to determine when to surface lists in the Smart Stack, but your real-time location is never sent to our servers.
• Usage and device data: basic technical information to operate, secure, and improve the service (e.g., device type, OS version, interactions, diagnostics).

How We Use Information

• Provide, maintain, and improve the app and related services.
• Sync your data across devices and within shared groups in real time.
• Deliver features like natural language item entry where available.
• Use store locations (with your permission) to surface relevant lists when you're nearby.
• Communicate important updates and respond to support requests.
• Protect the security and integrity of the service, including fraud prevention.

Location Privacy

When you add store locations to a list, those location coordinates are stored on our servers so they can sync across your devices. However, your real-time device location is processed entirely on your device using Apple's privacy-preserving APIs. We never receive or store your current position. The "Always" location permission, when granted, enables iOS to compare your position against saved store locations locally, allowing your grocery list to appear in the Smart Stack at the right time.

AI Processing

Some optional features, including Smart Add, list-specific Smart Add, Reminders Import, and server-based category suggestions, use third-party AI processing. Before any personal app content is sent for these features, the app asks for your permission in an in-app consent sheet. If you choose not to allow AI processing, these third-party AI features are blocked unless you try again and grant permission.

When you allow AI processing, Just Groceries sends the relevant request through the Just Groceries backend to OpenRouter. OpenRouter may route the request to the selected model provider configured for the feature. The data sent may include the grocery text you enter, reminder titles and notes you choose to import, list names, category names, quantities, and nearby list/category context needed to complete the requested AI action.

AI processing is used only to parse grocery requests, import reminders, or suggest categories. We do not send your password, payment details, real-time device location, contacts, photos, or unrelated account data for AI processing. Production systems avoid storing raw AI prompts and responses except where required to operate and secure the service, diagnose failures, or comply with legal obligations.

You can revoke AI processing consent at any time in the app under Preferences > AI Processing. Revoking consent blocks future third-party AI requests. You may also request account deletion, which deletes account data subject to legal or operational retention requirements. We require third-party service providers that process data on our behalf to protect it with safeguards that are the same as or comparable to those described in this policy.

Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data with service providers who process it on our behalf, including hosting, notifications, subscription management, diagnostics, and AI processing where you have granted permission, under contractual safeguards. We may also disclose information to comply with the law, protect our rights, or prevent abuse.

Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You may request deletion of your account data, subject to legal obligations that may require certain records to be retained.

Your Choices and Rights

• Access, correct, or delete your data where applicable.
• Export a copy of your data where available.
• Manage notifications and certain permissions in your device settings.
• Grant or revoke optional AI processing consent in Preferences > AI Processing.

Children’s Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under the age required by applicable law. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the “Last updated” date above.
